Mediator Certification
Do you want to develop and refine your conflict resolution skills? Do you want to become a Mediator certified to practice in California? You can be in any major!

Students are eligible to receive Mediator Certification after completing the Senior Seminar in Conflict Resolution I (SS/SE/HUM 183B) and an internship of 100 hours of volunteer mediation for the Orange County Human Relations Commission. The internship begins after completing the course and can continue over three quarters. Students will receive four units for the internship through a 199 Independent Study.

The program is designed for sophomores, juniors, and seniors in any major. As a participant in this program you can attend and participate in class discussions and mediation simulations, and hear guest speakers who are practicing mediators.

The program offers you:

  • Tools to analyze and resolve conflicts
  • Skills to mediate conflicts at the interpersonal, family, business, and community levels
  • Skills to negotiate win-win agreements
  • Practice in mediation and negotiation
